2013–14 Worcester Sharks season

The 2013–14 Worcester Sharks season will be the franchise's 8th season in the American Hockey League, which started on October 12, 2013.
==Off-season==
Joe Will became the Worcester Sharks general manager starting in their 2013–14 season. Will is a long time member of the management team for the San Jose Sharks, which is Worcester's major league affiliate at the National Hockey League. Will replaced Wayne Thomas, who remains an assistant general manager for San Jose. Charlie Townsend became Worcester's video coaching assistant, after having spent the last three seasons as a professional hockey player, and last season as assistant coach and video coordinator for the Bloomington Blaze due to an injury-shortened season. Additionally, Jon Gustafson, also a former professional hockey player, was named vice president of business operations.
Several new players joined the Worcester Sharks in the off-season, including defensemen Konrad Abeltshauser, and Kyle Bigos; forward Sebastian Stålberg; and goaltenders J. P. Anderson, and Troy Grosenick. They also re-signed players Jimmy Bonneau, Riley Brace, Lane Scheidl, Adam Comrie, Rob Davison, Nick Petrecki, Harri Säteri,〔 Bracken Kearns and Marek Viedensky. Goaltender Alex Stalock, who last year became the all-time leader for Worcester,〔 was also re-signed, but he started the regular season with the San Jose Sharks. Worcester forward John McCarthy was called to San Jose as well. The DCU Center underwent $23 million renovations during the off-season, including a restructured main entrance, expanded concourse, aesthetic interior improvements, a new streetscape and upgrades to mechanical and electrical systems.
Worcester held their training camp from September 23 to October 3 at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough Massachusetts, except the first day at DCU Center in Worcester. Several players from the ECHL, the minor league one tier below the AHL, participated in the camp but were ultimately not chosen for the team, including forwards Kris Belan, Louie Caporusso, Luke Judson and Christian Ouellet; defensemen Josh Kidd and Connor Goggin; and goaltender Tyler Beskorowany.〔 Forwards Matt Pelech and Freddie Hamilton were both to slated to start the season with San Jose, but Hamilton was reassigned to Worcester the day before the game.
The Sharks lost the first of their three pre-season games on September 25, falling 5–2 to the Hartford Wolf Pack, despite Worcester's Josh Kidd opening the scoring with a power play goal. They next played two back-to-back games with Providence Bruins, with the Sharks winning 2–1 on September 27 and losing 3–1 on September 28.〔 Forward Jimmy Bonneau scored the game-winner in the final three minutes of the September 27 game.〔 Worcester maintained a 1–0 lead for much of the final game, before the Bruins scored three unanswered goals in the last 30 minutes. Three of the Sharks' five preseason goals were scored by defensemen, including two by the rookie Abeltshauser, but head coach Roy Sommer said he did not believe that indicated the team would have offensive problems during the regular season.〔
